Calling your agent from the browser
You can talk to any of your agents straight from the Agents page - no phone and no phone number involved. Every agent card has a Slide to call control at the bottom: drag the handset across and let go, and the call starts through your computer's microphone and speaker. It is a slide rather than a tap so that brushing past a card never starts a call by accident.
The first time, your browser asks for permission to use the microphone - allow it. A window opens with a timer, a microphone meter so you can see the agent is hearing you, and the conversation written out as it happens. Mute silences your side without ending the call; Hang up ends it. A call that is left running ends on its own after fifteen minutes.
The agent behaves exactly as it does on a real call: the same greeting, voice, instructions, knowledge base and actions. Two things are different. The agent has no phone number for you, so anything that needs one - a text message, say - will ask you for it. And an agent you have switched off can still be called, which is the easiest way to hear a change before you switch it back on.
Every browser call is saved in Call history as "From browser", with its recording and transcript. It is billed like a phone call without the phone-line charge: you pay for the speech recognition, the model and the voice, and the minutes count against the minutes included in your plan. A call that never connects costs nothing.
Browser calls work in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on computers and on phones. If the window says the microphone was refused, look for the microphone icon in your browser's address bar and allow it for this site.
